We are based in Ammanford, Carmarthenshire and have been in operation since 2013. What is Tree Felling?

Tree Felling is the process of cutting down individual trees and the person carrying this out is known as a Tree Feller. Tree Felling is a dangerous activity if you don’t have the qualifications and experience to carry it out safely.

Tree Felling is a fine art and you need to have extensive knowledge of trees, woodlands and surrounding areas to understand the best way to prune or remove a tree to make sure it falls safely without harming anyone or anything around it. Precision felling is key to the safe removal of trees or large plants.

What will an experienced Tree Feller do?

An experienced and knowledgeable Tree Feller will assess and prepare before they start work. The first step in felling involves assessing the situation, planning the fall, clearing around the base of the tree and preparing an escape path. A qualified Tree Feller will always look upwards as well as around to size up the crown, any dead branches that might fall, dead branches in nearby trees that may be knocked loose, rotten stems that may break, intertwined branches that may affect or prevent the fall, and look for nearby snags that may be hit. They will also consider the lean and crook of the tree and the direction the wind is blowing. Anything that affects the balance of the crown will affect the direction of fall and may also have produced reaction wood. They will keep an eye out for trees that could be knocked over, spring back or toss broken pieces at you and look for obstacles; rocks, stumps, uneven ground that may cause the stem to break or rebound. They will always cut dead and downed trees or snags that could interfere with the felling, limb the lower portions of the tree and clear an escape path before they actually begin cutting the tree down.

The key and priority of Felling are dropping the tree safely to the ground, exactly where you want it, to enable easy removal, with minimal damage to other trees or anything or anyone around it.

What Qualifications do you need as a Tree Feller or Tree Surgeon?

A qualified Tree Surgeon is trained and is an expert in the cutting back and removal of any age trees or plants and will hold CSCS cards and have a City & Guilds NPTC Level 2 accreditation in chainsaw use as well as being compliant with all industry standards and Health & Safety legislation.

Do you need planning permission to cut down a tree?

Many mature trees are protected by tree preservation orders which in general means that you need the council’s consent to prune or fell them. If you are unsure if a tree you want to prune or remove is protected by a tree preservation order then we advise you to contact your local council before you do anything or invite a Tree Surgeon or Tree Felling company around to give you a quote.

Can I cut down a tree in my garden in the UK?

You are permitted to prune or cut down any tree on your land if it is healthy and as long as it is not subject to a Tree Preservation Order or located with a conservation area.

We carry out private work for domestic properties and larger scale construction contracts for property developers.

We do not own our own plant hire or operate larger scale machinery, however, we do work closely with a local plant hire business and this enables us to offer a site clearance service incorporating chipped or treated wood into topsoil and removal of any waste material off-site.
